Miriam Kent Profile Photo

I am an experienced, integrative, humanistic psychotherapist and an accredited member of IAHIP. Having practiced meditation for over 25 years, I believe passionately in the transformative effects of mindfulness. I work from the premise that every human being has the capacity to advance the mind’s innate strength to awaken to its own resourcefulness.

I hold an MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions from University College Dublin and am qualified to teach

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy courses. With a background in nursing and midwifery I have witnessed how mindfulness and meditation provides patients with a greater capacity to manage very stressful situations.

I also recognizes the huge need to bring the practice of mindfulness into the lives of our children and have completed further training with the Mindfulness in Schools Programme, UK (MISP). The .b training course is specifically designed to teach mindfulness to children between eleven and eighteen years of age.

In my psychotherapy work, I respond to the needs of the whole person, taking into account the uniqueness of each individual. Greatly influenced by the teachings of Carl J Jung, I emphasise the importance of the individual psyche and the personal quest for wholeness. My post graduate training in Gestalt therapy and Mindfulness emphasises a moment to moment process in the therapeutic space. I believe that each person has an innate wisdom within, and the purpose of therapy is to bring that wisdom to awareness, each client discovering their own potential and ability to empower themselves when met with the various challenges that life brings. When the therapy work demands it, I have the ability to work creatively with clients, providing them with a deeper experience and understanding of how the internal dialogues and processes influence and impact on one’s behaviour and actions.

I enjoy bringing humour, warmth and gentleness into the work and encourage a curiosity into one’s moment by moment experiences.

I provide supervision to experienced psychotherapists, counsellors, students and those working towards accreditation. As an experienced supervisor, I work creatively with supervisees, both individually and in groups. In an open and safe environment, I encourage each person to reflect on the 'Self' in supervision, becoming aware of one's own personal reactions which arise in the context of their work with clients.
